¡@¡@The Origins of the NSRG are traced back through a
series of correspondence, which took place between the Secretary of the World
Federation of Neurology, Prof. D. Klein and Prof. William McKinney, the Founding
Fathers of the NSRG.
April 21, 1977
¡@¡@I am sending the minutes of the last Meeting of
the Research Committee in Antwerp (Nov 15, 1975). Unfortunately, the group on
Ultrasonics does not figure on this report, its activity is so low that we had
to suppress this group since several years. There should be no dues in your
case for the last years, the group (Ultrasonic) is not existing anymore.
Prof. D. Klein, Geneva
May 3, 1977
¡@¡@I am truly distressed that the activity in ultrasound has been
so sadly neglected by our speciality... I would like to suggest for your consideration
and that of your committee that an effort be made to form a section on Neurosonology.
I would like to take this opportunity then to request that you and the council
consider the formation of a new research council called "Neurosonology".
WM McKinney, USA

¡@¡@I was very interested by your letter suggesting the creation of
a new Research Group of "Neurosonology". Your arguments are very convincing
for the necessity of such a group ... I shall add in my report your suggestion
for the creation of such a group.
Prof. D. Klein, Geneva

¡@¡@At the recent Meeting in San Francisco of the ultrasound group at the World
Federation of Diagnostic Ultrasound, a preliminary meeting was held with members
internationally in order to stimulate this area. I would like to suggest that
a research group be formed and that the names attached be considered as initial
members.
WM McKinney, USA
June 20, 1977
¡@¡@I am very impressed that you succeeded already in establishing
a list of competent specialists who would like to join this group. As the formation
of a new group needs the approval of the President of the WFN, I think it would
be best to wait until the session of all the secretaries at the International
Congress in Amsterdam on Saturday, Sept 10th¡K I am sending you hereby the official
invitation to join this session.
Prof. D. Klein, Geneva
Oct. 1978
¡@¡@The formation of this Group (Neurosonology) was proceeding
satisfactorily and Dr. De Vlieger (Deputy Secretary) submitted a list of founding
members; other individuals were being invited to join. The Group held a meeting
in Bologna in Oct 1978, and a further one is planned in Japan in July 1979.

¡@¡@Since the formal acceptance of the Neurosonology Research Group
in the World Federation of Neurology, a cooperative international effort began
to provide a venue for meetings and presentation of scientific breakthroughs
in Neurosonology. There are many names not listed but individuals from many
sections of Neurology stepped forth to assist the NSRG colleagues and friends
in their efforts to form an internationally cohesive group.
